Frequently asked questions
Everything you might be wondering before your first build. Still have a question? We'd love to hear it — reach out anytime.
What is Central Brick Society?
A creative studio, social club, and skill-building lab for builders of every age. Think of it as a third place — not home, not school — where kids, families, and lifelong builders get their hands on bricks and actually make something. Five creative zones to build, tinker, film, design, and connect, plus a curated retail shelf to purchase LEGO sets, games, and more.
Who is it for?
Builders of every age. It's an especially good landing spot for kids roughly 7–14 looking for a creative place to go after school — but families with younger builders and grown-up brick fans are just as welcome.
Where are you, and when do you open?
We're at 461 Central Avenue in downtown Highland Park, opening Fall 2026 (we're targeting October). Founding memberships are open right now — get on the list on our homepage to hear the opening date first.
What are your hours?
Once we open:
What are the creative zones?
Five of them, plus rotating signature programs: the Open Build Studio (free building), Gears & Gadgets (STEM + engineering), Pixel Palette (mosaics & brick art), Behind the Lens (photography + stop-motion animation), and the Character Workshop (design your own minifig and trading card).
Can I drop my child off?
Builders 9 and up who agree to the Builder's Code are welcome to be dropped off. Younger builders are welcome too — they just need a parent or caregiver in the studio with them. Our team is here to keep the studio safe and creative, but we're a drop-in creative space, not a licensed childcare program.
Do I have to be a member to visit?
Not at all. Drop in anytime for $33 per builder — full access to every zone for the day. And if you decide to join that same day, we'll apply your drop-in toward your first month. Just here to shop the retail area? Come on in — the $33 only applies when you're here to build in the studio.
Do I need to book ahead?
Drop-in visits are welcome without a reservation. Workshops, camps, and birthday parties are booked ahead online so we can save your spot.
If we leave, can we come back the same day?
Yes — one check-in covers the whole day. Head out for lunch and come back, no problem.
Do you host birthday parties?
We will once we open, and members get a discount — 10% off for Basic Builders and 20% off for Master Builders. Details and booking will go live closer to opening day.
Is there anything for the grown-ups?
Beyond the bins of brick which are hard to resist, there will be comfortable seating, coffee, and a curated retail area — and we're planning adult build nights down the road, too. Adult brick fans are always welcome.
What membership options are there?
Basic Builder ($99/month) is for the once-or-twice-a-week builder — up to 8 studio visits a month across every zone. Master Builder ($279/month) is for the everyday builder — unlimited studio access plus premium perks and priority everything.
What does every membership include?
Access to all five zones, members-only community events and appreciation nights, priority registration for workshops and camps, Brick It challenge cards and build guides, Builder of the Month recognition, voting rights on our monthly community build challenges, the coffee bar, and referral credit when you bring a new family into the Society.
Can I add my other kids — or myself?
Yes — building is better together. Add another builder from the same household at a reduced rate: +$59/month on Basic Builder or +$149/month on Master Builder. Each member gets their own benefits, and you can mix and match plans (say, one everyday Master Builder and one weekend Basic Builder). Up to 6 members per household.
How does billing work? Can I cancel?
Regular memberships are month-to-month and begin the day you join. Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice — no long-term contract. Visits, guest passes, and monthly minifig builds reset each month and don't roll over.
What's a founding membership?
Society Starters are our founding members — the families helping Central Brick Society open. You reserve your first year now, which helps us build out the space, stock the studio, and open our doors with a real community already behind us. In return, you lock in the promotional rate for life, get a hand in shaping how the studio looks and launches, and are recognized — always — as one of the ones who started it all.
What do founding members get?
One month free with your founding rate locked for life (your free month comes back every year you renew), exclusive Society Starter swag, invitations to our private soft open and grand opening with a founders' VIP experience, your own Series 001 collectible character designed in the Character Workshop, and your family's name on the Society Starters Wall — all on top of the full benefits of the plan you choose.
How does prepaying work, and when does my membership start?
You pay for 11 months up front and your 12th month is on us. Your membership becomes active the first full month after we open (target: October 2026) — so nothing you pay for is used up while we're still setting up.
Is the founding round limited?
Yes — our first founding round is limited and spots are first-come. If you're on the fence, getting in early is how you lock the founding rate and the founding perks.
Do you sell bricks and sets?
Yes — a curated retail shelf with sets, kits, minifig supplies, and giftable finds, so the fun can come home with you.
Can I buy what I build?
Our bricks are meant to stay in the studio so the next builder can dream something up too — that's the whole idea. But if you fall in love with a creation, you can usually take it home for a price. Just ask a studio guide and we'll help you make it yours.
I still have a question — how do I reach you?
We'd love to hear from you. Send us a note at hello@centralbricksociety.com and we'll get right back to you — and get on our list at the bottom of the homepage to hear opening news first.
